Frank Ocean + Designer Furniture

There’s a photo that has been circulating online for a few years.  Frank Ocean with his arms over his face, lying down on a modular sofa.  This sofa is the Dune sofa, designed by Pierre Paulin, made for Pucci.  The complete modular set is sold for over 100 thousand dollars.

Anything photographed with association to Frank Ocean, takes on a deeper intrinsic value.  Although most people know Pierre Paulin the designer, few have seen the Dune sofa before this photograph.  The Dune sofa takes on another level of cool with Frank Ocean lying on top of it as it fills up his city apartment.

He is photographed in the exact same pose, on top of the Ettore Sottsass designed bed “Elledue” for the Italian furniture design company, Poltronova.

Recently, he posted on instagram, this photo of himself sitting on Dieter Rams designed 620 Chair Programme for Vitsoe.

He’s also been photographed on a version of Tom Sach’s Shop Chair in Sach’s studio in chinatown as well incorporating Sach’s Studio chairs in a live set.

Along with his music, I’m also a huge fan of his sensibility.  His borderline between the obvious and obscure, he adds interesting value to designs without inherently adding anything but his cosign.  Just as his lyrics makes references to brand-names,  he attaches meaning to designs by being photographed with it.

His taste seem sincere and interesting enough for me to search for “FRANK OCEAN + DESIGNER FURNITURE.”  Right now, the only images I can find are the ones posted above but once in a while, I’ll do a search, and maybe find Frank Ocean sitting on a new design.
