Wassily Chair - Re-Strapping Guide:
STEP 1: Disassembly
1 - You need to unscrew the bolts on the side of the chair.
2 - The seat comes out first
3 - Then you can remove the backing.
(You might need to bend the tube inwards to remove the straps but don’t worry, you won’t break or damage the tubes)
4 - The bottom of the chair is put together by a piece of mini screw or bolt. Undo this and the chair should come apart.
STEP 2: Parts
After disassembly, you are left with 10 bolts and fittings. Make sure not to lose any of these pieces.
STEP 3: Assembly
1- (MAIN BODY / ARM REST, 4 STRAPS) Putting the chair back together, you will first assemble the main frame with the arm straps.
2- (BACK OF CHAIR / 2 BACK STRAPS) While putting in the back strap, you will need to assert some pressure, to bend the bar inwards as you put the strap in. Again, don’t worry about bending or breaking the tube. With enough pressure, you will be able to put both sides of the strap into the backing.
With the top backing in place, place the frame into the body. You will then add the second back strap.
3- (SEAT) Place the seats and screw in the bolts.
4- (SIDE RODS) The side rods are the last pieces to get installed.
Re-strapping your Wassily chair is pretty straight forward and should take about 20 minutes. Remember to install the back straps while putting inward pressure to the frame so you have enough slack and as long as you remember the steps, installation should be an easy process.
