Alexander Begge

1971년 Alexander Begge가 디자인한 독일 Casala 사의 Casalino Armchair . 곡선으로 우아 하게 뻗은 켄탈레버 일체형 구조가 너무 예쁘다 생각했는데, 디자이너의 이력을 보니 고개가 끄덕여 진다. 대학에서 도자기를 공부했고 의자 만드는 과정을 이렇게 시적으로 표현했다. ‘Not a single drawing I made’, he remembers, “I had this image of a wisp of fog, and elaborated on that. It brought so much joy. I was in a glow. I had forgotten everything around me.

나는 도면을 한 장도 그리지 않았다. 안개를 한 웅큼 잡은 이미지가 있었고, 그 걸 정교하게 만들었을 뿐이다. 그 과정은 너무나 큰 기쁨을 가져다 주었고, 내 주위는 빛으로 가득 찼다. 내 주위의 모든 걸 잊을 수 있었다.

영감으로 만들어진 아트워크같은 의자는 이듬해 하노버 가구 페어에서 좋은 디자인으로 상을 받고, 상업적인 성공도 거두었다. 무슨 이유에선지 이 의자 라인의 디자인은 기쁨과 상업적인 성공 모두를 가져다 주었지만, 디자이너는 Casalino 라인으로 같은 시대 몇 개의 가구를 디자인하고는 더 이상 가구를 디자인하진 않고 용광로에 들어가는 공업 제품 만드는 회사를 설립한다.

1970년대 인기를 누리다 단종되었으나, 2007년도에 다시 같은 회사에서 재생산을 시작했다.

The Casalino is a timeless and iconic piece from the 1970s. This chair is representative from the Pop Style ! Manufactured by Casala until the 1980s, the brand decided to resume the production in 2007. This seat is available in different versions: armchair, chair, stool and kids chair.


Biography

Begge was born in Germany in 1941, where he still lives. After he studied ceramic and after he designed the famous Casalino chairs, the German designer founded a company dedicated to furnace production. Even though he had a great success with the Casalino line, he never created any other furniture.
